I Will Sing: After All These Years

September 13, 2016 by Heather Mitchell Leave a Comment

“Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭28:15‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Lord, you never let me go. You go before me. You are always with me. I know I can only see you through the lens of my own human limitations. Yet, I know that you are limitless, more than I can fathom this side of Heaven. Give me eyes to truly see and a heart that fully understands that you are my God (my child’s, husband’s, friend’s God). The One True God who reaches far beyond human reason and is able to do immeasurably more than all I can ask or imagine.

You have not promised that this life will be easy, there will be troubles yet you have promised something far greater. This temporal world is not my home yet in you I AM HOME. You are with me, you take me by the hand, you lead me into a land of green and gold.

A Thread of Hope

January 6, 2016 by Heather Mitchell Leave a Comment

Through Thanksgiving and the Christmas season I posted a series called, “I Will Sing“. It was a simple series where I shared a scripture verse and a song. Each were songs and verses that have inspired and encouraged me in this season of waiting for our daughter.

Each week it was been something I have looked forward to. Encouraging me to lift my voice in praise and hope-filled expectation. Reminding me that God is with us and that He is always faithful, never changing. He continues to sing songs of deliverance over our daughter and family.

I have decided to continue this series with a post once or twice a month until we bring our daughter home. A sweet sound, a thread of hope, a ray of light, in a season that is sure to bring days that can seem too quiet and hopelessly impossible. The path at times, dark and uncertain.

Family Update: Part One

You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭32:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We have been in the waiting process for over eight months now. Bulgaria’s average wait time from registration to referral (matching a child with a family) is fourteen months. This time frame is based on the medium wait time for all Bulgarian adoption’s that our adoption agency has completed since 2011. Fourteen months puts us at March 13, 2016. Less than six months from today. In less time than a full term pregnancy, we may finally have the honor of holding our daughter for the first time. To finally have her near to us. To take in her sweet, beautiful face. To feel the cadence of her breathe, her heart beat. Robert and I long for this moment.

Heart Connections

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Robert and I have been praying that God would begin to create heart connections for each of our children with their soon to be sister. Ways to help them in deeply connecting with and fully accepting her as their own.

Since praying this prayer we have begun to see God at work in each of our children’s hearts in remarkable ways. In our home we refer to her as simply, “sister”. She has no face or name as of yet although she holds a very tender, sweet place in our family.

Beauty Rising

April 13, 2015 by Heather Mitchell 1 Comment

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion

— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. ‭
