Love Me Close

May 23, 2014 by Heather Mitchell 2 Comments

My three boys and one daughter ages 8 ,6 ,4 and 2 are with me 90 percent of the time. We eat together, play, learn, read, eat more and so on each day. I live along side them. We do life together.

We see wonder, we experience joy, we are inpatient, get angry, say sorry and hug close. The good and the bad. We are in it together. Building memories and close unbreakable bonds.

Even so, they still want more. It can seem too much at times and I want to break free. Have some space and my space is more like a territory. This constant closeness can make my skin crawl and my heart race.

At the end of the day, I am weary and so tired. We say goodnight and still they plead, “I need more Mommy time. Lay close to me”. I give a little more. I let go and just be. I shed my outer layer allowing myself to feel their soft skin, warm breath and heart beat so close to mine.

In those sweet moments, I know that there is nothing I want more than to lay close and hold tight to this intense love that I am given each and every day.

A love so close to God, so close to heaven.

This post is part of Five Minute Friday series. I get the one word prompts from Lisa Jo-Baker on Friday. The rules are simple. Write for five minutes flat. There is no extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. It is unscripted. Unedited. Real.

Today’s prompt was: Close

You’ve got a houseful to love! Such sweet exhausting memory making years. I’ve learned that every season of parenting offers much, teaches much, requires much, and gives much. Enjoy your lovely littles!

The closeness can feel suffocating at times, but without it who would we be? Don’t you love the beauty and innocence that these little blessings give us as mothers!
